Caged by secrets all around her and haunted by mistakes that have estranged her from Eight Beaufort, Barrie Watson is desperate to break the curse that puts her family in danger—without breaking the beautiful magic that protects Watson’s Landing. To do that, she must heal the rifts that have split the families of the island apart for three hundred years, unravel the mystery of the Fire Carrier and the spirits he guards, and take control of forces so deadly and awe-inspiring they threaten to overwhelm her.

With the spirits that cursed Watson Island centuries ago awake and more dangerous than ever, she finds an unlikely ally in the haunting and enigmatic Obadiah, whose motivations and power she still can’t read—or trust. His help comes at a price, however, plunging Barrie into a deadly maze of magic and wonder, mystery and intrigue that leads through history to places she never imagined she could go.

Charlie, otherwise known as Queen Charlaina of Ludania, has become comfortable as a leader and a ruler. Or so she thinks. When the negotiation of a peace agreement with the Queendom of Astonia goes awry, Charlie receives a brutal message that threatens Ludania, and it seems her only option is to sacrifice herself in exchange for Ludanian freedom. Review: Legacy of The Clockwork Key by Kristin Bailey

Legacy of The Clockwork Key
by Kristin Bailey
Hardcover, 403 pages
Expected publication: March 5th 2013
by Simon Pulse

GoodReadsAmazonBN

A teen girl unravels the mysteries of a secret society and their most dangerous invention in this adventure-swept romance set in Victorian London.

When a fire consumes Meg’s home, killing her parents and destroying both her fortune and her future, all she has left is the tarnished pocket watch she rescued from the ashes. But this is no ordinary timepiece. The clock turns out to be a mechanical key—a key that only Meg can use—that unlocks a series of deadly secrets and intricate clues that Meg is compelled to follow.

Meg has uncovered evidence of an elite secret society and a dangerous invention that some will stop at nothing to protect—and that Meg alone can destroy. Together with the handsome stable hand she barely knows but hopes she can trust, Meg is swept into a hidden world of deception, betrayal, and revenge. The clockwork key has unlocked her destiny in this captivating start to a trilogy.

I really, really enjoyed this story. It completely blew me away. I was engrossed in the story and the characters from page one until the end. I cannot even describe how good this book is because all that comes to mind is THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!

From the beginning until the end I loved everything about Will and Meg; Meg especially. She was fearless and brave.

You know how in some stories the main character just throws herself into trouble and constantly does the opposite of what she is told putting others in trouble? And how annoying that can be? In Legacy of the Clockwork Key it didn’t come off that way. It literally climaxed with every chapter. I could easily picture the characters and every scene in my head. It was like watching puzzle be put together. There is so much mystery and suspense I was at the edge of my seat. I wasn’t sure who could be trusted and what would happen next.

This story was just GREAT in every way and I definitely want more. It’s unpredictable, fast paced with non-stop action and a romance that blooms into pure beauty. I love Will! I HIGHLY recommend this book. It’s also definitely a story parents can share with their teens.

Review: Crash (Vision #1) by Lisa McMann

Crash (Visions, #1)
Crash by Lisa McMann
Hardcover, 256 pages
Published January 8th 2013
by Simon Pulse
AmazonB&NWebsite

If what you see is what you get, Jules is in serious trouble. The suspenseful first of four books from the New York Times bestselling author of the Wake trilogy.

Jules lives with her family above their restaurant, which means she smells like pizza most of the time and drives their double-meatball-shaped food truck to school. It’s not a recipe for popularity, but she can handle that.

What she can’t handle is the recurring vision that haunts her. Over and over, Jules sees a careening truck hit a building and explode...and nine body bags in the snow.

The vision is everywhere—on billboards, television screens, windows—and she’s the only one who sees it. And the more she sees it, the more she sees. The vision is giving her clues, and soon Jules knows what she has to do. Because now she can see the face in one of the body bags, and it’s someone she knows. Someone she has been in love with for as long as she can remember.

In this riveting start to a gripping series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa McMann, Jules has to act—and act fast—to keep her vision from becoming reality.

          My Review:

I really do love Lisa McMann's books. They are all full of excitement. If you like her Wake series, then you'll enjoy this book. Though in Wake her character sees her visions in people's dreams, Jules sees them every where in this novel. They are everywhere, billboards, on television on any plain surface. It's like a movie is playing before her eyes. These two series are about visions. McMann must have a thing for it as I do too. The visions in this story were very engaging.

What would you do if you see a vision that resulted in someone's death? Would you tell them and risk the chance of them not believing you? Well that's what happens to Jules. Jules can't get rid of these visions. She doesn't know what to do with it. At first she kind of ignore it but something made her pay close attention. That's when she realized that one of the dead bodies is Sawyer. Her love interest. That's where the story becomes interesting. How will she get him to take her serious about her vision? Lucky for her she has a super cool brother that is there for her regardless if he believes her or not.

I really enjoyed this novel, but I sort of felt that I was watching a human version of Spongebob sometimes. Jules and Sawyer's family both have a restaurant business. And there's a lot of talk about secret recipes. It reminded me of Mr. Krabs & Plankton. LOL. I liked the story as it progressed. The change of events happen so quickly. I had to re-read the scene to make sure I grabbed everything. Though I wasn't crazy about the ending, I think that fans of Mcmann won't be disappointed in this novel, especially if you like her Wake series. I give Crash 4 stars and a Good Choice for Reading.

Review: The Program by Suzanne Young!

Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone.

With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.

Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in.

And The Program is coming for them.

The Program by Suzanne Young is broken down into three parts and each part is just as good as the first. I found myself at the edge of my seat with butterflies in my stomach, and also fear that Sloane and James would be flagged and taken into The Program.

The world that Sloane and James live in believe suicide is a disease and can be cured. I was taken by surprise over this unique idea. It's a very touchy subject because it's happening in the real world more and more. But the view Suzanne Young creates in The Program on suicide was beyond entertaining and refreshing as well as super, super scary. If you cry, you can get flagged. If you show any type of sadness you can be flagged. Even lashing out over things that you have every right to lash out about can get you flagged. Basically, to survive you have to constantly be happy and smiling. It's the only way you will not attract any attention to yourself.

Things for Sloane are already rough as it is. She lost her brother to suicide so she has to be even more cautious. Since, according to The Program suicide spreads like Cancer, Sloane can easily “catch it” and attempt to take her life.

This book was sick! I mean this in a good way. I truly enjoyed this novel. I did feel though that somewhere in the middle is drags a little, but it’s all necessary in order to understand how the world Young has created works. I loved some of the scenes between James and Sloane and quickly fell in love with them both. They have been through so much and know that they can only count on each other to get through all this. There is so much betrayal, hurt, confusion, loss , and love in this book that it was hard not to like it. I was highly entertained and was eager to get to the end and find out what happens.

Things I was not very happy with were the slight love triangle and the ending. I was not happy one bit with the ending, but it leaves room for a second book so I guess I will just have to wait to find out what happens next.

Overall, The Program is a pleasurable story with a unique take on teen suicide. The story climaxes at the right time, and the characters are very likable. There is lots of suspense, romance, and action to keep you glued from page one until the very end. I highly recommend this book!

4 out of 5 stars!
