Book Highlight: Final Life by Rose Garcia & Giveaway

Nothing sucks more than being forced to move cross country during senior year. And Dominique Wells doesn't think things can get any worse until she's invited to a quirky neighbor's party. When pressured into playing a magical card game, Dominique's world goes from sucky to terrifying. She begins having visions of a red desert and an evil presence--a presence who hints at past lives and promises to kill her.

Plagued by fear and suspicion, and unaware of a family secret kept hidden from her, Dominique is determined to live. Together with a mysterious and gorgeous guy who's moved in while his parents are away, and a hot, popular guy from school, Dominique must seek clues to her past if she's to survive. That, and keep her emotions in check for the two guys she suddenly can't stop thinking about because if she doesn't, she'll be dead. For real.

SNEAK PEEK

“Dominique, please. Hear us out,” Dad said.
“No! You hear ME out! You brought me to this stupid city, and I hate it here! Everything about this place sucks, and now, because of you, I’m crazy!” Tear trickled down my face, and I wiped them away fast. “Okay? Fucking crazy! And it’s all your fault!”
Instantly I bit my lip because I regretted my words, but they were out already. Besides, they needed to know how pissed I was.
Dad paced the room. “You have every right to be upset, Dominique. We never meant for any of this to happen.”
I didn’t even notice Farrell at my side until he took my hand.  “Dominique, I told you. You’re not crazy.”

My head began to swoon. My knees buckled. Every time I was near Farrell, a funny feeling came over me. Sometimes it was a subtle dizziness, other times a tingle throughout my body, but always the feeling warmed me. Calmed me. And seemed so natural and familiar.
“What are you doing to me?” I whispered.

Magnolia by Kristi Cook Sneak Peek {Giveaway}

Hey GCReaders!!

Damaris and I are so super excited to share with you a sneak peek of Kristi Cook's new YA contemporary novel coming out on August 2014, Magnolia. We were given the chance to Beta Read it and I have to tell you that when it finished, I wanted more. Kristi wrote her characters so well, that you can easily connect with them. It's a beautifully written story about of romance, survival, friendship and family. You are going to love it! So check out the two chapter sneak peek below!

Magnolia

In Magnolia Branch, Mississippi, the Cafferty and Marsden families are southern royalty. Neighbors since the Civil War, the families have shared vacations, holidays, backyard barbecues, and the overwhelming desire to unite their two clans by marriage. So when a baby boy and girl were born to the families at the same time, the perfect opportunity seemed to have finally arrived.

Jemma Cafferty and Ryder Marsden have no intention of giving in to their parents’ wishes. They’re only seventeen, for goodness’ sake, not to mention that one little problem: They hate each other! Jemma can’t stand Ryder’s nauseating golden-boy persona, and Ryder would like nothing better than to pretend stubborn Jemma doesn’t exist.

But when a violent storm ravages Magnolia Branch, it unearths Jemma’s and Ryder’s true feelings for each other as the two discover that the line between love and hate may be thin enough to risk crossing over.

A Sneak Peek Into Time Between Us & Time After Time by Tamara Ireland Stone + Giveaway!

Hey GCReaders!

Today we share two sneak peeks, one from Time Between Us, and another from Time After Time by Tamara Ireland Stone. The first scene is from Anna's point of view, and the second is in Bennett's point of view.

We also have two sets of both titles, Time Between Us & Time After Time up for grab!

First, a little bit about Time Between Us & Time After Time.

Time Between Us (Book 1)

GoodReadsAmazonBN

Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet: she lives in 1995 Chicago and he lives in 2012 San Francisco. But Bennett has the unique ability to travel through time and space, which brings him into Anna’s life, and with him a new world of adventure and possibility.

As their relationship deepens, the two face the reality that time may knock Bennett back to where he belongs, even as a devastating crisis throws everything they believe into question. Against a ticking clock, Anna and Bennett are forced to ask themselves how far they can push the bounds of fate, what consequences they can bear in order to stay together, and whether their love can stand the test of time.

Fresh, exciting, and deeply romantic, Time Between Us is a stunning, spellbinding debut from an extraordinary new voice in YA fiction.

Time After Time (Book 2)

Calling Anna and Bennett’s romance long distance is an understatement: she’s from 1995 Chicago and he’s a time traveler from 2012 San Francisco. The two of them never should have met, but they did. They fell in love, even though they knew they shouldn't. And they found a way to stay together, against all odds.

It’s not a perfect arrangement, though, with Bennett unable to stay in the past for more than brief visits, skipping out on big chunks of his present in order to be with Anna in hers. They each are confident that they’ll find a way to make things work...until Bennett witnesses a single event he never should have seen (and certainly never expected to). Will the decisions he makes from that point on cement a future he doesn't want?

Told from Bennett’s point of view, Time After Time will satisfy readers looking for a fresh, exciting, and beautifully-written love story, both those who are eager to find out what’s next for Time Between Us's Anna and Bennett and those discovering their story for the first time.

Sneak Peek - Time Between Us

Double date from Anna’s point of view.

Emma races down to the front door like she’s about to burst with excitement, and as she opens it to greet the guys, her accent is even thicker than usual. I can’t help smiling at her. Or maybe I’m smiling because the guys really are cute. Or maybe it’s that even though I’m dressed in high heels, a skirt far shorter than anything my mom would ever approve of, and more eyeliner than Marilyn Manson, there’s something about this moment that feels more normal than anything I’ve felt all week.

Bennett must feel it too, because when he sees me, he launches right into compliments and pulls me into a big hug that signals that he’s here— really here— and for the first time in a week, it feels like I’m all that matters to him and there isn’t someplace more important he’s supposed to be.

When we get to the theater, we walk in side by side, Bennett with his arm draped over my shoulder and Justin and Emma holding hands. While we’re waiting in line for popcorn, Justin tells me, in a brotherly sort of way, that I look really nice tonight. Emma tells me to stop trying to steal her boyfriend, and Bennett jokingly threads his arm through hers, tells her he’ll be her date, and leads her into the theater cradling the jumbo-size popcorn.

And that’s how it goes for the rest of the night. The four of us are just the four of us, and Bennett and I are just the two of us, and everything feels so normal, not in a pretending-everything-is-normal kind of way but in a real, comfortable kind of way that makes me think that he’s found a way to fix things. That this is still the life he really wants— safe and boring and utterly normal.

I snuggle into his shoulder, grab a big handful of popcorn, and watch the screen. Like double dates and popcorn with extra butter and Twizzlers are the most important things in the world to us, our daring adventure is still in full swing, and there are no clocks to be seen for miles.

Now in present day San Francisco, Bennett’s reflecting back on that double date in 1995 after his friend Sam tries to set him up with someone.

Sneak Peek - Time After Time

Double date from Bennett’s point of view.

I can see Sam staring at me out of the corner of my eye, but then he shakes his head hard and looks away. “So,” he says, intentionally making his voice sound lighter. “Lindsey and I ran into her at the movies the other night.”

“Her?” I wipe the grease and chip dust from my mouth with my shirtsleeve. “Her who?”

He looks at me like he can’t believe I’d ask. “Megan.” Then he adds, “Hot Megan.”

“The one who throws all the parties?”

“Yes, that Megan. How many hot Megans do you know?”

I shrug. “I don’t know. At least”—I count on my fingers—“four.” He rolls his eyes.

“Well, I don’t know about the other three, but this one asked about you. Again. She told me to make sure I bring you to her party this time.” He looks at me expectantly, as if I should leap up off the ground and hurry home to rearrange my flight. Instead, I stand up slowly and reach for my board.

“Sorry, I would, but—”

“I know,” he says. “Your grandma. In Illinois. Who’s sick.”

“Exactly.”

Sam stands up too, and steps hard on the end of his board so it flips into his hand. “Look, you’ve managed to avoid her all summer, but when school starts next week, you won’t have a choice. The way I see it, there is only one reason you wouldn’t ask Megan out.”

“Because she’s kind of . . . vacuous?” She’s a junior, a year younger than all of us, and I haven’t spoken to her long enough to know if this is true or not. But I feel compelled to steer Sam away from his “one reason.”

He looks back at me. “If you really don’t like her, I get it. But she’s Lindsey’s friend, you know? The four of us could go out sometime. It might be fun.”

My mind flashes on an image of Anna, Emma, Justin, and me, walking into a movie theater, my arm draped over Anna’s shoulder and Emma’s arm threaded through Justin’s. I already have a “four of us.” Or at least, I did.
